If Decker Tours has a signature trip it would have to be the Copper Harbor ride. It was in our very first schedule and it continues to be among the finest trips that we do.
We start our ride in the famous Snowmobile Capitol of the World, Eagle River, Wisconsin. Our arrival day features an overnight at the friendly Best Western Derby Inn. A welcome cocktail and pizza party in the lobby of the motel starts things off right. While you are eating, drinking and socializing you can enjoy all the World Championship artifacts that fill the lounge area. And also, take a peak at the bottom of the pool. See if you know who won the World Championship with the sled there.
It only takes us one hour on our first day of riding (Monday) before we cross the border into Michigan. By evening you’ll have traveled all the way to Silver City and that night’s stay will be right on the shores of Lake Superior.
The second day it just gets better and the snow gets deeper as we head to Houghton and the start of great snow country – the Keweenaw Peninsula. Our overnight that evening is right in downtown Houghton. Again, you’ll have a “water view” as the motel overlooks the Portage River. Copper Harbor, our Wednesday destination and overnight stay, is at the tip of the peninsula and very top of the winter world. Your first view of this end-of-the-road community is from the top of Mount Brockway. You’ll remember forever the picture of tiny Copper Harbor nestled on a snow covered peninsula surrounded by the Great Lake Superior on two sides and inland Lake Fanny Hoe on the third perimeter. On our ride to Copper Harbor we’ll visit the old Delaware Mine site and have lunch in Eagle Harbor. We advise you to order the Lobster Pizza.
We spend the night at the Mariner North and dine in their friendly lounge restaurant. Don and Peggy will be your Host and Hostess at the Mariner. Don makes sure you have good trails and Peggy gives you one of the finest dinners of the trip.
We leave Copper Harbor and the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula and ride down the east side of the peninsula and spend our last night at the Lakeside Inn in Baraga. Friday, it’s away from the shores of Lake Michigan, and the state of Michigan and back to Eagle River, Wisconsin.
The Copper Harbor tour has served as a prime destination for Decker Tours because it’s hard to find an area that offers more for a perfect snowmobile vacation. GREAT lodging choices, EXCEPTONAL food, and a well-groomed trail system, with a variety of terrain and deep, deep, DEPENDABLE snow.
This well proven Copper Harbor ride attracts more repeat customers then any other trip because it is such a great package. Try it and see for yourself.
